An accident in the 13th race at Freehoild Raceway on Friday sent Eric Abbatiello to an area hospital, where he is in the Intensive Care Unit, being treated for five broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to his spleen.
The accident occurred just seconds into the race when Pandanza (Jason Bartlett) went down and Abbatiello, aboard Queen Celine, couldn’t avoid the downed horse. Only two horses in the race were not affected by the accident--Everes Connection and Allthatnabagachips--hence ist was delcared no contest by the judges.
Jason Bartlett was also taken to a nearby hospital, but according to reports, was released with no major injuries.
Also involved in the accident was George Brennan, driver of Nice And Happy, who just returned to the track recently after breaking his wrist in an accident at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on May 31.
Abbatiello is the son of driving legend Carmine Abbatiello.
