Escape The Wind prevails at windy Woodbine

October 27, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

On a night when a strong wind played havoc with racing, Escape The Wind had no trouble beating free-for-all heavyweights Lis Mara, Boulder Creek and Silent Swing and top 3-year-old colt Tell All in the $100,000 Gold Cup Invitational at Woodbine Saturday night.

Trainer-driver Roger Mayotte sent Escape The Wind to the lead from post five and the duo marched on to a 1:52 victory. It was the third score in the last four starts for Escape The Wind, who has continued to race at the top level of competition at the age of seven.

Silent Swing, driven by Phil Hudon, who had beaten Escape The Wind the previous week at Woodbine, finished second while Tell All, making his first start behind the gate since the Tattersalls on Oct. 6, rallied from next to last to take third. The performance by Tell All included a miraculous recovery from contact with another horse's sulky, which caused the horse to stumble badly.

Boulder Creek raced in the two hole but faded to fourth. Lis Mara, driven by John Campbell, was third at the pylons early but also faded in the stretch drive.

Escape The Wind has now won 11 of 32 starts this season, giving him 43 career wins for the Venture 2000 Stable and Early Bird Stables.
