Actor Emilio Estevez will officially announce at a Thursday afternoon press conference at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum that he will shoot a movie about harness racing in the Cincinnati area next year. Estevez, the brother of Charlie Sheen and son of Martin Sheen, was quoted as saying his next project "shoots in Ohio, where both my folks are from, set in the competitive world of harness racing."
Estevez said he wanted to shoot another "family film" that compares to Secretariat and Seabiscuit. "People are familiar with Thoroughbreds, but Standardbreds are a different animal and serve a different purpose. The whole sport is very familial, the kids and wives are involved, and it's also international.
"It could be a lot of fun and it's a sport that we haven't seen on screen," he added.
While shooting locations have not yet been announced, the only harness track in southern Ohio is Lebanon Raceway, about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. The Thoroughbred tracks River Downs in Ohio and Turfway Park in Kentucky are also in close proximity.
