Eternity just a delight

Eternity's Delight won the $252,000 Jugette for 3-year-old filly pacers Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware (Ohio) County Fairgrounds in straight heats, scoring a 1:52.4 decision in the first split and coming back to win the second in 1:53.2. The win with Eternity's Delight gave Ohio native driver David Miller his first-ever Jugette trophy.

Eternity's Delight sat back in sixth in the first heat as Western Gallie and driver Yannick Gingras set the early tempo. However, a first-over Art's Temptress and driver George Brennan was at her flank the entire way, pushing the pace to stanzas of :26.1, :53.4 and 1:22.3 before giving way. Miller swung Eternity's Delight wide in the last turn and urged his charge past a game Western Gallie in deep stretch to win by a half length. Art's Temptress was able to hold on for third.

With the top-three finishers starting from the inside three posts in the second heat, Miller got away third with Eternity's Delight before rushing to the lead at the :28.2 quarter. Once again Art's Temptress and Brennan were on the move first-over, and once again she was hung by the leader through a :57.1 half and 1:24.3 three-quarters. Future Destiny and driver Ron Pierce followed second-over, keeping Western Gallie along the inside.

Around the turn Future Destiny swung wide and loomed bold, but she could not overcome the last quarter of :28.4 posted by Eternity's Delight. Art's Temptress stayed game and finished second, with Western Gallie a nose behind in third. Future Destiny settled for fourth.

Eternity's Delight--who paid $8.80 in the first heat and $5.20 in the second--is trained by Travis Alexander, who also conditions Western Gallie. The daughter of Bettor's Delight out of 2000 Fan Hanover runner-up In For Life was bred by White Birch Farm and owned by Jules and Arlene Siegel. The Siegels and Alexander were also the connections behind 2005 Jugette winner Just Wait Kate. Eternity's Delight doubled her earnings to more than $230,000 with the win.
