Even field in Am Nat 3FP

A very evenly-matched group of 10 three-year-old pacing fillies, led by last week's elimination winners Up Front Dragonfly and Do Me Good, will close out the 2005 American National Stakes season on Saturday night at Balmoral Park. This contentious affair carries a purse of $250,000 and has been carded as race five on a big 12-race program.



Up Front Dragonfly was particularly impressive in last week's action as she overcame post position eight in a wire-to-wire victory. The daughter of Dragon Again sped right to the top for driver Dave Magee and these two never looked back as they cruised to a 2 ¾-length triumph in 1:54.4.



The win was the 15th in 27 starts for this Bill Elliot-trained miss who also has four seconds and four thirds to her credit this season. After going unraced as a 2 year old Up Front Dragonfly has definitely made up for lost time by earning more than $235,000 this year for the partnership of Tucker, Mullinax and Sampson Street Stables. Up Front Dragonfly also gets post relief on Saturday as she will start from post position three in this tussle.



Ed and Jennifer Engle's Do Me Good also jumped into the double-digit win category with a score here last week and this Michigan-based filly figures to garner plenty of support in this match-up. The daughter of Keystone Raider took advantage of a textbook drive by Dave Magee last week as she grabbed command early then relinquished the lead and sat in the garden spot before coming on again in the late going to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.3 over the sloppy surface.



A model of consistency while competing in the Wolverine State, this Allen Tomlinson-trained miss has racked up career numbers of 18-5-3 in 33 starts while earning over $212,000. Do Me Good has drawn post position five for the rich final.



Jay Corey, David Habeger and Virgil Morgan Jr. Stables multiple stakes winner Chotat Milk was hampered by poor striking position in her third-place finish last week but with the move down to post position two this talented filly definitely rates a long look in this battle. The daughter of Jate Lobell closed from seventh to third in her elimination but simply had too much ground to make up over the sloppy surface.



This two-time Hanover Stakes winner has faced the best sophomores in the country this season, putting together a record of 5-1-4 in 14 starts while banking over $370,000 for her connections. Under the guidance of conditioner Virgil Morgan Jr., Chotat Milk has earned more than $432,000 in her 21-race career making her the richest lady in the field.



Another who cannot be counted out of this is Brittany Farms' Copywriter who came up short in a start she may have needed as the 2-5 favorite last week. Coming into her elimination this royally-bred daughter of Artsplace had been off for nearly a month since her back-to-back scores in the $101,600 Bluegrass Stakes and the $158,000 Garnsey Memorial at The Red Mile.



The Chris Ryder-trained filly has a wealth of early speed and from post position one she figures to be on or near the lead every step of the way as she looks to add to a 2005 bankroll of almost $270,000.



Completing the field for this American National are She Likes It All, Bound For Glory, Sleazebiscuit, Calling Card, Kiss Of Life and Fox Valley Zena. (Balmoral Park)
