EVH proof needed at PPK

Management at Pompano Park in cooperation with the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association has announced to all horsemen stabled on the grounds of the racetrack and to everyone planning on shipping horses to the racetrack, that they must have proof of a Equine Herpes Virus (EVH-1) vaccination for each horse within the past 60 days starting Jan. 3, 2007.

“Due to the recent outbreaks of Equine Herpes Virus in the south Florida area we are taking every necessary precaution at this time,” said Steven Wolf, Pompano Park senior director of racing operations. “We are working with the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association, our track and state veterinarians and the training centers throughout the state to ensure that every harness horse has a current vaccination before coming to Pompano Park otherwise they will not be permitted on the grounds.”

Horsemen are urged to check with their private veterinarian regarding this vaccination and other precautions that should be taken to prevent the spread of the virus. Anyone with questions is urged to call the Florida Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association at (954) 972-5400. (Pompano Park)
