A stakes record was set in the World Filly Trotting Derby as Exotic Destination pulled an upset, scoring in 1:52.2 for George Brennan. The stakes mark was one of six stakes records set on the 11-race card as racing concluded at the Du Quoin State Fair. With George Brennan in the bike, Exotic Destination rushed to the lead in the :27.1 opening quarter then relinquished the lead to Hambletonian Oaks winner Danae and Tim Tetrick, who led the field past the half in :55.4 and the three quarters in 1:25. But Danae went on an extended break and eventually finished seventh. In the lane Exotic Destination overtook Falls For You and Dave Magee to win by 1 3/4 lengths. Possess The Magic and Mike Lachance were third. Trained by George “Buzzy” Sholty, who co-owns the Dream Vacation filly with JML Stables, Exotic Destination won her fourth straight and seventh of the year in nine starts. She did not race at two. The other stakes-record setting performances were turned in by Faith Leigh (Incredible Finale) in 1:51 in the Hayes Memorial 3-year-old filly pace; Corner Blitz (Pro Bono Bests) in 1:51.1 in the Hayes Memorial 2-year-old colt and gelding pace; Spread The Chips (Band’s Gold Chip) in 1:55.4 in the Shawnee final for 2-year-old ICF filly trotters; Redrover (Valley Victor) in 1:56.3 in the Darn Safe 2-year-old ICF colt and gelding trot; and Kelly’s Keepsake (Sportsmaster) in 1:51.3 in the First Lady 2-year-old ICF filly pace.
