Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear called a special legislative session to begin June 15 to address a revenue shortfall, but said the subject of video lottery terminals at racetracks isn't on the agenda at this time.
"I still have under consideration other issues and will likely be amending the call in the next few days as we develop more consensus on some of those issues," Beshear said after a meeting this morning with legislative leaders.
According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, House Speaker Greg Stumbo, a Democrat who has supported the idea of VLTs at the tracks, said yesterday that he thinks he has enough votes to pass an expanded gambling bill in the House. The Courier-Journal said that when asked on Wednesday morning where the issues stands, he referred questions to the governor.
