Expensive Scooter p,3, 1:51 ($910,846) died Saturday morning, June 24, in his stall at Morrow Lands Farm in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, at age 15. According to Dean Redmond, who co-owned the stallion with Steven Stanek, Walter Brown and James Coffman, a veterinarian’s autopsy revealed that Expensive Scooter died of an aortic aneurism.

“We fed that morning, and two hours later (I) walked past his stall and I just heard him kicking the wall a little bit, and walked up to his door. I could see it in he eyes. And it wasn’t three minutes and he was gone,” Redmond said.

Bred by Walnridge Farm and Rose Guida, the son of Direct Scooter-Expensive Lady, by Tyler B. won 11 of 18 starts—including the Breeders Crown at Freehold--and $674,845 as a 2 year old racing for Marvin Katz and Sam Goldband. He won five of 23 starts his sophomore season and $236,001, taking his record in an elimination of the Meadowlands Pace.

Expensive Scooter was in his 12th season standing at stud, all in Ohio except for one year (2001) when he stood in Illinois. He was the sire of 162 starters with 32 in 1:55, 91 in 2:00 and the winners of $5.6 million.
