November 01, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Fairbank Gi, a son of the Italian sire Lemon Dra, captured the Orsi Mangelli in Milan Tuesday, Nov. 1. The Credit Winner son Cromwell won his elim and was third in the final.

Fairbank Gi won his elim in a mile rate of 1:57.1 and then came back and won the final in a mile rate of 1:56.2 over the 1,600 meter distance (about one mile).

In the final heat Fairbank Bi challenged to take the lead after passing the first quarter marker, but he was on one line terribly and almost ran over horses. Once on the backstretch driver Peppino Maisto got him straightened out and he could not be caught. Although back on one line throughout the homestretch, he won easily over Flute Grif, with the other elim winner, the Credit Winner son Cromwell, taking third.

Cromwell, who recently was purchased by Robert Bergh and NHL hockey player Peter Forsberg, won his elim in a mile rate time of 1:57.1, but he got caught in traffic in the final.

In addition to Cromwell, several horses were shipped from the U.S. to Milan for the Orsi Mangelli. In the elim won by Fairbank Gi, Yankee Valor finished fourth, Really Charming was sixth, and Muscle Bound was seventh; in the elim won by Cromwell Vino Camielle was seventh and Ro Lo finished eighth.
