Falls For You forces Filly Futurity race-off

There will be a race-off for Kentucky Filly Futurity honors after Falls For You won the second heat in 1:53.2 Friday afternoon at The Red Mile. Falls For You will join elim winners Vulcanize and Flash Lightning in the race-off, but with Vulcanized scratched by trainer Bob McIntosh just two will line up behind the gate.

The complexion of the second heat changed heading into the first turn when Flash Lightning made a break with driver Ron Pierce. Danae rushed to the front but took a pocket seat behind Southwind Serena, who led through the opening quarter of :28.1. David Miller pulled Vulcanize from third at that point and rushed to the front, leading to a :56.1 half and 1:25 three-quarters.

Around the final turn Caress The Senses led an outer flow first-over, followed by Brian Sears and Falls For You. The daughter of Yankee Glide rallied off her cover to go on to the victory. Bruschette took second and Wishful me finished third.

Trained by Trond Smedshammer, Falls For You is a daughter of Yankee Glide owned by Atlantic Trot, Fair Winds Farm, Ted Gewertz and Willow Pond.

This is the second straight year a Smedshammer-trained filly contested a Kentucky Futurity race-off. Last year's Smedshammer's Queen Serene had to settle for second behind the Pierce-driven Passionate Glide in the two-filly match race.

By rules, the second-heat winner Falls For You will leave from post one in the race-off, with Vulcanize the two and Flash Lightning the three hole.
