Farifant stayed hot at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in 2009 by winning the featured Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday night. The race carried a purse of $30,000.
Leaving from post position five in a field of nine as the 1-5 favorite, Farifant fired on the outside early to take over the lead on the first turn. He was passed shortly after by Fuel My Muscles, but stayed close with the pocket trip. In the stretch the inside passing lane opened up, and driver Andrew McCarthy rallied Farifant, trained by Anette Lorentzon, to get the win by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:54.3. Springboard, who led briefly in the stretch, ended up second while Grain Of Truth picked up third.
Farifant, a 7-year-old stallion sired by And Arifant and owned by Acl Stuteri AB of Paris, Ky., won for the fourth time in seven tries in 2009, including a perfect three for three at Pocono in Open Trot company since August. With the win, his 18th lifetime, Farifant has now earned over $703,000 in his career. (Pocono Downs)
