Fast Pay was quick indeed in capturing the second $130,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final of his career Monday at Mohawk, in a non-wagering event rescheduled after electrical storms forced the cancellation of much of Sunday night’s card.
The 3-year-old son of Western Terror, with Paul MacDonell in the bike, took command from early leader, Shipps Xpectancy (Jack Moiseyev) as the colts entered the stretch, fought off challenges from OK Boromir (Luc Ouellette) and Stonebridge Terror (Mike Saftic), and paced home a length to the good in a blistering 1:49, a new lifetime mark.
OK Bomomir crossed the wire second, and Stonebridge Terror hung on for third.
David Menary trains Fast Pay, who also captured an OSS Gold final at Rideau Carlton in June, for owners Larry Menary, Denis Breton, Phil Silvestri, and Joe Settimi. This win, his fifth in 11 sophomore starts, boosts his career earnings to $285,920. (WEG)
