Hambletonian eligible Chancey Hall threw his hat into the ring by winning an overnight at the Meadowlands Thursday night in 1:53.3 for trainer Skip Lewis, who won the 1984 Hambo with Historic Freight.
With George Brennan at the lines, Chancey Hall won by 1 3/4 lengths, giving him two straight wins at the Big M. Brennan made the move to the front just past the quarter and Chancey Hall was never headed the rest of the mile.
Chancey Hall is a son of Like A Prayer out of the Pine Chip mare Charm's Chip, who is a sister to last year's World Trotting Derby Filly Stakes winner Cool Muscles. A $16,000 yearling purchase by Lewis, who brought in partner Richard Thurlow, last year Chancey Hall won two of six starts, taking a mark of 1:57.2 with a late-closer victory during the Grand Circuit meet at The Red Mile.
