Two weeks after making a break in the second leg of New Jersey Sire Stakes action at Freehold, the 3-year-old gelding trotter Spam Spade remained on his best behavior to win the $85,000 final Friday afternoon over that half-mile racetrack. With Andy Miller driving, Spam Spade kept control throughout the contest to win in 1:56.1.

Leaving from post one, Miller left with Spam Spade but found himself locked in an early battle for the top with the Yannick Gingras-driven Wind Surfer. Miller didn't budge with the bettors' choice, forcing Gingras to look for a hole. He was able to squeeze his way in behind Spam Spade and in front of Better Than Most, who had found an early seat in third for Jeff Gregory after leaving from post six.

Spam Spade set fractions of :27.1, :58.2 and 1:27.3 before closing out his mile with a final quarter of :28.3. Wind Surfer gave chase on the inside to finish second, with Ringside Muscle surving a last-half first-over journey to finish third for Daniel Dube.

Spam Spade, a gelded son of Dream Vacation, is owned by the Andy Miller Stable and trained by Miller's wife, Julie. The win was his fourth of the year in nine starts, increasing his seasonal earnings to $71,000. Out of the Muscles Yankee mare Chynatown, Spam Spade was bred by Perretti Farms.
