Sophomore pacing filly Alexabeth handed previously unbeaten EJ’s Copperstone her first loss of the season Saturday night, August 9 at Indiana Downs. The upset, a 1:54.3 score, came in the second leg of Indiana Sires Stakes competition. The race was one of three $12,000 events offered for three year old pacers.

Frank Baldachino’s I Scoot Hanover filly has raced competitively in ISS competition this season, but has consistently come up short. After winning a preliminary leg at Hoosier Park, Alexabeth raced third in the $100,000 final. Saturday the Mickey Burke-trained filly broke through in the stretch to win by three and one-half lengths for Ricky Macomber Jr. Mischief (Electric Yankee) and Trace Tetrick were second and Go Nan Go (Lease On Life) closed in the stretch for third. Favorite EJ’s Copperstone, a winner of six straight, finished fourth.

Two $12,000 ISS divisions were held for sophomore colt pacers Saturday night. Freddyscooter and Brad Hanners upset favorites Robin I Scoot and Don Irvine Jr. in the first split, using a :26.4 final panel to propel them to a quarter length victory in 1:52.2. Sons of I Scoot Hanover swept the top three spots as the favorite finished second and I Scoot For Cash and Don Eash were third. The victory was the fourth of the season for the gelding, bred, co-owned and trained by Steve Brannan.

In the second division, favorite Rocknroll Band raced near the front for most of the mile before crossing the wire three quarters of a length in front in 1:53.2. The Mattnamaras Band gelding was driven by Dan Shetler for trainer Jim Dailey. Dollar Capital (Capital Request) finished in the runner-up spot and second-choice Blueridge Finance (V P Finance) raced third.
