Favorites scare up victories in Yonkers features

November 01, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Those Halloween night ghosts, ghouls and goblins were joined by cheering chalkplayers as a couple of Yonkers Raceway favorites won their respective $40,000 co-features.

Go on BB, a sharp Meadows shipper, had no problem negotiating the change of venue in the Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace. With Greg Grismore driving for trainer Mickey Burke, "BB" was the 11-10 choice from post position six.  She was away fourth as last week's victress, Omen Hanvoer (Dan Dube), rolled to the lead.

"Omen" led the lasses through intervals of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:24 with Go on BB offering serious first-up pressure.

The field of eight was effectively reduced to a match race as the leader tried desperately to shake off her interloper. Omen Hanvoer took a 1 1/2-length lead into the lane, with Go on BB ducking inside for the drive. Go on BB kept going on, prevailing by one-half length in a snappy 1:53.  Best Chance Hanna (Pat Lachance), Black Brinny (Jason Bartlett) and Twin B Tiara (Stephane Bouchard) completed the cash caravan.

For Go on BB, a 4-year-old daughter of Dontgetinmyway, she returned $4.20 for her 10th win in 19 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $10.40 (two favorites), with the triple returning $48.40.

Friday night's Open Trot saw Four Starz Trump (Dube) outdrawing his seven rivals and the odds-on favorite was never far from the fray.

Nahcotta Jude (Steve Smith) parked out A J's Send Money (Tony Morgan) as the double-digit propositions slugged it out in and out of  weigh stations that went in :28, :57.4 and 1:27.4.

All the while, Four Starz Trump was sitting pocketed before diving inside. He outgamed Armbro Copenhagen (Gregory) by a nose in 1:58, with Haste (Mike Forte), Kami's Call (Bartlett) and "Jude" rounding out the payees.

For Four Starz Trump, a 5-year-old Dream Vacation trained by Michael Lathman for Four Starzzzz Stable, he paid $3.70 for his fifth win in 19 '08 tries. The exacta paid $15, while the triple returning $40.60. (Yonkers Raceway)
