Post time favorites Heathers Dream and KD Girl captured their respective divisions of the Lady Suffolk Stakes for 3-year-old trotting fillies at Freehold Raceway Friday afternoon. Heathers Dream and David Miller nearly went wire to wire in 2:00.1 while KD Girl and Jeff Gregory rallied off the final turn for a 2:00 score.
In the $47,600 first division Miller hustled Heathers Dream out from post five and stayed on the rim, clearing to the lead before the :29.1 quarter. Wellesley Hall and Jim Doherty challenged at the top of the home stretch the first time, but went on a break. Heathers Dream continued on with the lead past the half in 1:00.2 and the three-quarters in 1:30.3 while Self Admirer and Stephen Smith provided the first-over challenge.
At the wire Heathers Dream held off Self Admirer by a length while Wolf’s Fawn and Gregory, who sat a pocket trip, came up the passing lane to be third.

Spellyuptothebar and Cat Manzi came first-over after the quarter and gave KD Girl cover down the backstretch the second time. In the final turn KD Girl tipped three wide then overhauled Willow Run Hottie in deep stretch for a one-length victory. Celebrity Sweedie and Brian Sears followed the winner and was four wide at the wire to be third.
This was the first start of the year for KD Girl, a daughter of Self Possessed-True Love, by Pine Chip, bred by Peninsula Farm, trained by Greg Hoch and owned by Wayne Harrington. She won three of nine starts and $42,625 last year.
