Feinberg back in CA

Return Home
May 24, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Dick Feinberg, who is no stranger to both Cal-Expo and California, has made the long trek from his home in Florida to become the new general manager for Sacramento Harness Association (SHA), which runs the harness meet at the California State Fairgrounds.

"I'm excited to return to Sacramento, where I was the general manager from 1990-1992,” said Feinberg.  "Sacramento Harness, with Chris Schick resigning, needed the help, so with me having the time, and knowing the territory, it worked out well for all parties.  Besides, it's a good idea to get the heck out of Florida during the hurricane season," Feinberg chuckled.

"My main goal is not to screw up the good job that Chris has done.  But seriously, I'm looking forward to helping SHA, as well as the California harness industry in continuing to succeed.  The result of the vote on Tuesday to keep SHA running the show was an affirmation for the job that SHA has done to this point, as I see it from a distance.”

Feinberg first arrived in Sacramento in 1975 as a horseman, working as assistant trainer for Kevin Tisher, who had a well-regarded stable of mostly Cal-breds in the 1960s and 70s.

Some of Feinberg's management positions in California include working as publicity and marketing director for both Lloyd Arnold, and a bit later on for Chris Bardis at Cal Expo, Golden Gate Fields, Bay Meadows, and Los Alamitos Race Course in southern California, where he went on to serve as GM for Quarter Horse /Thoroughbred racing in the 1990s.

Not all of Feinberg’s work has been restricted to the west, as he most recently completed a seven-year stint at Pompano Park in Florida, working there as general manager from 1999-2006.

"Combining my time as a horseman with my management career in California, I have a long history with many horsemen currently racing at Cal Expo, and have worked with most of the folks in upper management at Cal Expo.  I'm looking forward to renewing some old friendships."

Feinberg, will who arrive in Sacramento on Thursday evening, will officially take over the helm on Monday, May 28.  He, however, will make the cross-country trip alone at this time, as his wife Cindy, and their two boys, Teddy (12) & Jonny (9), will remain in Florida during the interim time period. (Scott Erlich for SHA)
