November 12, 2006 | Print View

Cabana Fever defeated Sportsfancy by a head in the $130,000 American National final for 2-year-old filly pacers Saturday night at Balmoral Park. The Chicago racetrack was the site of five lucrative finals on the card.

Ryan Anderson drove Cabana Fever, a daughter of Real Desire, to the 1:52.2 victory. Joe Seekman trains for owners Lee and Linda Devisser, Sawgrass Farms and Helping Hands Stables. It was her seventh win of the year in 10 starts, increasing her earnings to more than $375,000.

Hidden Viggorish won for the ninth straight time in the $180,000 American National for 3-year-old filly trotters. The daughter of SJ's Caviar was driven by Brian Zendt, setting all the fractions on her way to the 1:54.2 decision. I Like Stephanie was second with Victors Finesse third.

Perry Smith trains for owner-breeder Harmony Spring Stable. She now has earnings of more than $2350,000.

Prayer I Am won the $147,000 American National for freshman colt and gelding trotters for driver Pat Berry and trainer Kevin Thomas. Swanderful was second with favorite Vapor Maker third.

A son of Like A Prayer, Prayer I Am won for the fourth time in 10 starts to increase his earnings to more than $185,000 for owner Roy Dobbins.

Ipanema Oaks picked a fine time to win for the first time, springing an 18-1 shocker in the $126,000 Am Nat for 2-year-old filly trotters. The daughter of Lindy Lane was driven by Brent Holland for trainer Erv Miller and owner Jerry Silva.

Ipanema Oaks was timed in 1:58.1 as she defeated Harbour Belle and Mogo On The Gogogo. The 3-5 favorite Godiva Hall broke and finished eighth.

The Quite Mon scored a 1:51.2 victory in the $135,000 final for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Finishing second, 2 1/4 lengths behind, was favored Home Bed Advantage, who lost for the first time in eight career starts. Active Trading was third.

Jason Dillander drove the winner for trainer John Butenschoen, who shares ownership with Ed Bardowski, Lorelie Knar and Sandra Zilli. The win was his sixth in eight starts, and along with two seconds he now has earnings of more than $160,000.
