The Quiet Mon and Wearable Art easily won the two eliminations for the Berry's Creek Saturday night at the Meadowlands and will lead eight others--Cue The Paige, Home Bed Advantage, No Perfect Escape, Pop Z Pop, Spin Rate, Fresh Deck, Isaac Newton and Artist's View--into next Saturday night's final.
The Quiet Mon took the first elimination in 1:50.4. Andy Miller sent him to the front of the field just after Cue The Paige hit the opening quarter (:28.4) and he was never seriously threatened, covering the last quarter mile in :26.2. Cue The Paige maintained his position to take second while Home Bed Advantage, who was first-over in the last turn, flattened out in the stretch drive but held for third.
The Quiet Mon is a gelded son of Richess Hanover. He's out of the Cam Fella mare Camela Anderson, whose granddam produced 1990 Horse of the Year Beach Towel.
The Quiet Mon is owned by trainer John Butenschoen, Ed Bardowski, S. Zilli and L. Baron. Fox Valley Standardbreds bred The Quiet Mon, who is named after a pub on St. John island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Last year he won seven of nine starts and earned $215,100, but raced only in Illinois.
Wearable Art, the 6-5 betting favorite, cleared to the lead at the half and cruised home a 1 3/4-length winner in 1:50.3 in the second elim with a :27 final panel. Spin Rate, who was first-over in the last turn, took second.
Peter Kleinhans trains and owns Wearable Art, a son of Artiscape out of the Presidential Ball mare Lo Gophobia. Bred by Winbak Farm, Wearable Art was sold as a yearling for just $11,500. He won two of four starts as a 2 year old and took a mark of 1:55.4 at the Meadowlands.
