The field has been set for the 2010 Prix d'Amérique, which will be held Sunday afternoon at Hippodrome de Vincennes, in the Vincennes park, in Paris, France.
The race, worth about $1.4 million US, appears to be the domain of French trotters this year as no top horse based outside of France has garnered much respect in the preps leading up to the race. Last year's winner, Meaulnes du Corta, will likely be the betting favorite.
Among the starters will be One du Rib, who won France's top under saddle race, the Prix du Cornulier, on Sunday, Jan. 24. The world-record setting mare Premiere Steed, a daughter of Workaholic, finished third in that race and is also entered in the Prix d'Amerique.
However, historically the Cornulier/d'Amerique double is virtually impossible to accomplish. The last horse to pull off the feat was the great French trotter Jag de Bellouet.
