Fillies, mares at Hawthorne

Bow Wow Wine and Street Dancer picked up wins in the second round of the Plum Peachy Series and Loyal Opposition scored in the series named for her in racing action at Hawthorne Friday night.

In the first division of the Plum Peachy for 3-year-old filly pacers, Bow Wow Wine raced first-over from the half then overtook the pace-setting Free in the lane and posted a 1 1/4-length victory in 1:54 for Tim Tetrick. She’s A Big Star and Tony Morgan were third.

In the second division, Street Dancer, who defeated Bow Wow Wine in last week’s first leg, went wire to wire for Dale Hiteman in a 1:54.2 mile, defeating Just Believe and Ryan Anderson by two lengths. Little Sweetheart and Sam Widger were third.

Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, Terry Rathgeber, Ted Lock and Jim Reynolds own the winning daughter of Richess Hanover trained by Nelson Willis.

Loyal Opposition returned to her native soil and with Dave Magee in the bike for trainer Erv Miller, the 6-year-old daughter of Cole Muffler moved into the lead going to the three-quarters and went on to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:51.4. Parklane Powerful and Hiteman were second followed by Lou Annie and Morgan.

Owned by Daniel Waxman, Loyal Oppositon scored her fifth triumph of the season in nine starts in the series for 4-year-old and up mares.
