Fillies to star at Woodbine

November 08, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The draw for WEG's last two major stakes of 2006 were conducted Tuesday as the Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association Stakes (SBOA) for 3-year-old fillies of both gaits will highlight this Saturday evening's card of racing from Woodbine.

The SBOA festivities will kick off at 8:01 p.m. with a field of seven trotting lasses lining up for the night's $165,975(C) second race. The pacing fillies will be on track for race five (9:04 p.m.), which has attracted a field of 12 whom will be gunning for the largest chunk of the $205,850(C) purse.

Pure Ivory (PP6, Steve Condren) should garner most of the attention in the SBOA Trot since she has assembled yet another solid campaign for trainer Brad Maxwell. The bay Striking Sahbra miss recently had her five-race win streak halted in the Breeders Crown, where she upended divisional queen Passionate Glide but was just beaten a head by Susie's Magic in an intense rush to the wire.

Having proved that her freshman O'Brien Award-winning campaign was no fluke, Pure Ivory has triumphed in 11 of 18 dashes this year (including four second-place finishes), trotted in 1:53.1 and banked in excess of $831,000(C), pushing her career bankroll to just under $1.3 million(C).

Intrepid Water (PP7, Rick Zeron) will be looking to further bolster her resume in the SBOA Pace, as she will be looking to build on her solid 1:52.3 score in the $300,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final in mid October. The Intrepid Seelster lass has posed for the winners circle cameras after 11 of her 16 tilts this year and has banked more than $425,000(C) in purses for conditioner Bob McIntosh. (WEG)
