Fillies tune up in qualifier

My Little Dragon, last year’s Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Pace champion, and Lonesome Day, last year’s Sweetheart winner, tuned up for the Mistletoe Shalee in a 1:54.1 qualifier Wednesday morning at the Meadowlands.

My Little Dragon, driven by Brian Sears, won the qualifier, pacing her last quarter in :25.4. The filly has only made two pari-mutuel starts this season and finished second in both, an elim and the final of the Jim Lynch Memorial at Pocono Downs. In the Lynch final she was beaten 3 ¼ lengths by Darlins Delight in 1:50.1.

Lonesome Day also has made just two pari-mutuel starts this year but finished off the board both times. In the qualifier she paced her last quarter in a sharp :26.3 for driver David Miller, who also drove her to victory in last year’s Sweetheart.

Eliminations for the Mistletoe Shalee are scheduled for Friday, July 28, at the Meadowlands.
