Indiana Downs hosted the second round of Indiana Sires Stakes competition for freshman filly pacers Monday, July 23, attracting two 11-horse divisions. EJ’s Copperstone and LBS Scootin Coffee, each victorious in the first round, triumphed in the $15,000 contests. In the first division, the third race on the program, EJ’s Copperstone and Don Irvine Jr. started from the second tier and took command racing to the half. The Lease On Life filly went off as the favorite and stopped the timer in 1:57, winning by a length. Mischief and Joe Essig Jr. were second while Townline Speedy and Walter Haynes Jr. finished third. EJ’s Copperstone is owned by breeders L J Stone and Phillip Hawk. The first foal of Indiana Sires Stakes champion E J’s Delite is trained by Steve Gray. One week after wiring the field in the opening round of ISS competition, LBS Scootin Coffee collected her second straight win, pacing to a 1:57.1 score. The favorite was driven to victory by Ricky Macomber Jr. The I Scoot Hanover freshman is owned and trained by Jacob Graber. Lightning Lil and Irvine raced second and An Electric Laugh and Rick Farrington rounded out the trifecta. LBS Scootin Coffee is a half-sister to L-N-A’s Dream, ISS two-year-old divisional champion in 2005.
