Filly's first win a big one

Cantor’s Daughter, a full sister to Breeders Crown champion Cam Swifty, picked up her first career win when she captured the $200,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes 2-Year-Old Filly Final in 1:53.3 Friday night at The Red Mile.

Cantor’s Daughter paid $17.40 to win and Forever Showin Off gave backers a $41.20 payoff for a place bet. Those prices, and with the 1-9 shot Real Girl finishing off the board, spurred a $2,391.60 trifecta and $52,276.80 superfecta.

John Campbell drove Cantor’s Daughter, a daughter of Cambest-Swifty But Nifty, who was winless in six previous starts. The filly had finished second in three prior starts in Kentucky Sire Stakes action at The Red Mile, starting from post eight in the last two outings.

This time Cantor’s Daughter started from post two and Campbell allowed Forever Showin Off, Clyde’s First Cam and then the 1-9 favorite, Real Girl, to show the way before making his move. Clyde’s First Cam hit the quarter-mile marker in :28.4 before David Miller made a Meadowlands-type move with Real Girl to sweep to the front just past the quarter.

Real Girl was leading comfortably at the half in :56.2 when Cantor’s Daughter pulled up alongside, taking the first-over route. After pacing past the three-quarter station in 1:24.4, Cantor’s Daughter drew alongside Real Girl and then in early stretch put her head in front before drawing away.

Forever Showin Off held on for second while My Fave Wave, who had beaten Cantor’s Daughter the previous week, rallied from the back of the field for third.

Noel Daley trains Cantor’s Daughter for lessees Blue Chip Partners, Adam Victor & Sons Stable and Mark DeRugerlis.
