Flash Lightning was the fastest of the three New Jersey Sire Stakes winners in the 3-year-old filly trot division Wednesday night at the Meadowlands, closing from eighth at the top of the stretch to win in 1:55 for driver Dan Dube and trainer Tony Mannino, while in another division Possess The Magic made her first start of the year and finished fourth.
Wishful Me was a well-rated 1:55.2 winner for driver David Miller and trainer Don Swick. It was the first win of the season for Wishful Me, who paid $14.60, $4.80 and $2.60. She fell just a head short of victory in her season debut, last week’s opening round of the sire stakes. Wishful Me now sports a career slate of five wins and two seconds in 10 starts. The daughter of Yankee Glide is owned by Royal Wire Products of North Royalton, Ohio.
Runner-up Cash Cow finished 4 1/2 lengths behind and returned $3.20, $2.20. Gerri’s Joy, the 2006 Merrie Annabelle winner, was a strong third in her sophomore debut and paid $2.60. Possess The Magic, the leading money-winner among the 2-year-old trotting set last season, also made her 2007 debut. Unable to rally into the tepid fractions set by the winner, she finished fourth. Granny Gui and Flash Lightning were both repeat NJSS winners in the earlier divisions. Driven by Mike Lachance, Granny Gui picked up her second win in four starts this season with a 1:55.4 mile. Sam Fava trains the daughter of Dream Vacation for the Sophia Stable of Mt. Kisco, N.Y. The Lightning Stable owns Flash Lightning.
