Additional wagering numbers have now come in from Norway/Denmark/Sweden on the Hambletonian Day card at the Meadowlands, with that Swedish hub betting $438,344 on the card, an increase of 97 percent from the $221,966 wagered last year. The result is a total all-sources handle on the program of $8,219,779, the third highest ever and the second highest ever for a 15-race card.
Total handle from the Swedish hub on the Hambletonian itself was $154,046, bringing the total handle on the $1.5 million race to $1,622,786, an all-time record and a 26 percent increase over 2006.
Also, Norway/Denmark/Sweden held a V5 bet on Saturday, with the final leg being the Hambletonian. There was $154,046 wagered on the V5, a number that is not included anywhere in the above figures since in other years the Hambletonian was not the last leg in that Pick 5 wager.
