The favorites--Man About Town and Euro Hanover--prevailed in both $18,000 divisions of the Hiram Woodruff Series on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands.
In the first division, 3-5 choice Man About Town cruised to the lead past the half and drew off to a length-and-a-half victory over Valley Sport in 1:54. American Lane was third. Driven by Brian Sears and trained by Mark Silva, Man About Town notched his third win at the Meadowlands. Prior to dropping into the Hiram Woodruff, he won an $85,000 Classic Series division in 1:53.3. Donato Poliseno of Hartly, Del., owns the 4-year-old gelding. In the third race division, 1-9 favorite Euro Hanover and John Campbell coasted to a 2 1/2-length win in 1:54.3. Jetn Lindy was second best, while Camelot Kosmos finished a distanced third. Euro Hanover has won four of 13 starts this season for trainer Bruce Saunders and New Jersey-based owners Charles Vincent, Nancy Greene and John Dickinson. Man About Town and Euro Hanover will square off in the $45,000 (est.) Hiram Woodruff final on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. Post time for the matinee program is 1:10 p.m. (Meadowlands)
