A small fire on the roof of the new temporary casino at The Meadows Thursday night reportedly caused about $30,000 worth of damage. The fire was reported shortly after 10 p.m. and was extinguished about 90 minutes later after being responded to by three local fire departments.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. Earlier this week racetrack officials announced a planned June 5 opening of the new slots area would be delayed because of a need to improve the security system; it is not known whether the fire would cause any further delay.
