L'Amiral Mauzun, representing France, won the first heat of the Elitlopp Sunday at the Solvalla track in Stockholm, finding racing room in the homestretch to edge Going Kronos at the wire in 1:53. A Touch Of Flair, driven by Ron Pierce for the Adam Victor & Son Stable, did not advance to the final.
L'Amiral Mauzun, who started from post one, enjoyed a trip in the pocket as Going Kronos, a 4-year-old son of Viking Kronos, set the pace from just past the quarter until just before the wire. Jean Michel Bazire, who drove Moni Maker to victory in the Prix d'Amerique, was up behind L'Amiral Mauzun.
Pierce was able to work out a second-over trip with A Touch Of Flair, but the Australian-bred trotter tired.
Thai Tanic, also by Viking Kronos), finished third while Frullino Jet, a son of Pine Chip, took fourth to earn the last ticket to the final from the first elimination.
