The featured race of the Wednesday evening card at Northfield Park was an $8,000 Open Trot, which was won by Pure Jesse.

The 4-year-old gelding, owned by Yvette Prudenzano and Basil Kellis, found room as the field headed into the stretch and flew late, defeating Pine Hill Jewel by one length in 1:58. Favored pacesetter Lucca's Revenge was third. Brett Miller drove the winner for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr.

That was not the fastest trot of the evening, however. That honor also went to Prudenzano, Kellis, Miller and Morgan, as Indian Hill Rocket, on the comeback trail, posted a 1:57.2 win in a $3,000 conditioned event. The win was his first in the past 20 months. He has raced just four times since November of 2005.

A first-over move by owner-trainer-driver Elbert Quesenberry with 75-1 shot, Sand Chaser ($153.40), in the third race triggered a $21,547.60 trifecta when Match As got up for the place spot at odds of over 80-1. The eight horse, Tropical Pirate, finished off the 9-7-8 triple. The payout is believed to be a Northfield Park trifecta payoff record. Sand Chaser won for the first time in four seasonal starts.
