Five for MacDonald

Mark MacDonald became WEG.'s first $6-million man of 2006 thanks to a fantastic Friday night of racing at Mohawk Racetrack. The circuit's dash and money-leading driver made his way to victory lane on five occasions, including his win with Southwind Rio in the $152,500 Champlain Stakes.

MacDonald, who also leads Canada in the wins and earnings, swept the daily double with Fifi (1:53.3) and Four Starzz Meliss (1:50.2). He struck a pose in the eighth race with Stonebridge Kisses (1:51.3) before guiding Red Pop (1:52.2) to a wire to wire triumph in race 12.

His five-win performance brings his 2006 total to 530 wins. He'll look to add to that total on what figures to be a hectic Saturday, which includes six assignments at Flamboro Downs followed by eight mounts at Mohawk Racetrack. (WEG)
