Harnessracing.com has learned that the ongoing investigation into race fixing at the Michigan racetracks that was first announced in early March has resulted in the expulsion of five horsemen at Hazel Park Friday night, May 21, and their indefinite suspension. The five horsemen had been subpoenaed by the state's Gaming Control Board to produce financial records for the past two years, but at a hearing held May 20, all failed to provide any records and instead invoked their Fifth Amendment rights to abstain from testifying.
The five horsemen involved are: Don Currier Jr., Don Harmon, Wally McIlmurray Jr., John Moody and Rick Ray. Until this latest development, driver Art McIlmurray and two owners had been issued suspensions in Michigan when the allegations of race fixing were first announced in early March.
