Flex The Muscle captured the $100,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championship for 3-year-old trotting colts Friday afternoon at Freehold Raceway, picking up his fifth win in 13 starts this season for owners Ray Schnittker, Jerry Silva and Arden Homestead Stable.
The race got underway with Peace Bridge trotting to the front and Break The Bank K, driven by Trond Smedshammer, keeping Senor Glide and Jimmy Takter parked out. Late in the first turn Senor Glide cleared Peace Bridge, but Break The Bank K went offstride, bringing Flex The Muscle, driven by David Miller, up to third.
After a :27.1 first panel, Senor Glide showed the way to the half in :56 before Miller challenged with Flex The Muscle. By the three-quarter mark (1:26.1), Flex The Muscle was in front, with Take My Picture trotting three-wide to take his best shot.
Flex The Muscle, a son of Muscles Yankee, was strong and pulled away in the stretch drive, with Take My Picture finishing second and Peace Bridge third.
