August 19, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Flirtin Man, driven in hand by John Campbell, drew off to win the first $117,250 division of the Zweig Memorial Trot at Tioga Downs in a new track record of 1:54.3

Please Poppy and Per Henriksen took the lead but Flirtin Man was just on his outside, pressuring to a :28.1 first quarter.  Please Poppy let Flirtin Man go to the front and the Angus Hall colt led every step of the way.  Conway Court and Jim Morrill, Jr. came up for second with Rovaniemi and Steve Smith coming from the back of the pack for third.

Flirtin Man, who made a break in the Hambletonian, now has six wins in 10 starts lifetime.  Gary Naperala trains the colt for Juniper II, Brittany Farms and Let It Ride Stable.  The win time is a new track record for three-year-old colt trotters at Tioga Downs.

Bet To Win and Jim Morrill, Jr. took the second division of the Zweig in 1:56.3.  Photo Maxx got to the front at the quarter, after being three wide around the first turn.  Edgestone Hanover (Jeff Gregory) got the pocket trip with Monkey Bones and Steve Smith in third.  Bet To Win got away fifth to the :29 first quarter but pulled first over at the half.  Parked the rest of the trip, Bet To Win, bested Photo Maxx who tired to third and Edgestone Hanover came back to finish second.  Photo Maxx is trained by Jimmy Takter for the Photo Maxx Partners of Versailles, Ky.  The S J’s Photo colt now has three wins in seven lifetime starts and now has over $82,000 in earnings.
