The Sunshine Stakes for Florida-bred 2 and 3-year-old trotters and pacers gets underway Wednesday at Pompano Park. Total purses for the six-week series are in excess of $400,000.

The trotters are in the limelight Wednesday with last year’s top 2-year-old trotting colt, Admiral Nemo, heading the third race. A winner in seven of his 11 starts and $65,000 in earnings, Admiral Nemo starts from post seven for driver Tommy Haughton and is the 5-2 favorite against return winner Alotofpossibilities (post 6) and Excalibur MC (post 4).

In one of the two filly trot divisions for 3 year olds, JP Sage, a winner in seven of 10 starts and $51,000 last season, starts from post one in the first race for trainer-driver Stephen Lareau and takes on six-time winner last year, Fimo, who starts from post six for driver Bruce Ranger.

The 2 and 3-year-old filly pacers compete in the Sunshine Stakes on Friday and the colts and geldings start their first round of preliminary competition on Saturday.
