Donald Soderstrom’s homebred Sody’s Moonshine rebounded from his first career defeat on Saturday, October 13, putting forth an impressive performance to capture a $19,225 division of the Florida Sale Stakes for juvenile colt and gelding pacers at Pompano Park. Driven from post four by Kevin Wallis, Sody’s Moonshine settled briefly in the pocket as Seal The Deal Spot (Bruce Ranger) paced an opening quarter in :28.3, before overtaking that rival with one quick rush to the front, cutting out middle fractions of :58.4 and 1:27.4. The son of Tough Sir entered the lane with a clear advantage, and was unchallenged through the final yards to post the victory in 1:56.4 after a final quarter-mile that went in :29. Mc Flash (Andy Santeramo) finished second, while Force To Rekinwith (Dan Clements) crossed the wire third. Trained by Kim Sears, Sody’s Moonshine has visited the winner’s circle in 10 of 11 career starts, with his lone defeat coming in last week’s $14,000 Sunshine State Stakes final where he was beaten a half-length by Napoleon Dynahorse. Mark Rorabeck’s Alligator Alley scored for the second time in his last three starts when capturing the second $19,225 Florida Sale Stakes division for 2-year-old colt and gelding pacers in 1:56.2. Trained by Mike Deters, and driven from the inside post by Wally Hennessey, Alligator Alley wasted little time taking control of the race, powering to the front on the first turn before showing the way through fractions of :29.3, :58.2 and 1:27.3. The son of Raging Glory entered the stretch with a one length advantage, and was unyielding down the lane, holding off a late charge by Napoleon Dynahorse (Ranger) to prevail by a half-length at the wire. Some Call Me Joe (Gaston Lareau) finished third. Alligator Alley has now visited the winner’s circle in three of eight lifetime starts, and owns a career bankroll in excess of $34,000. Racing will resume at Pompano Park on Wednesday (October 17) with a 12-race pari-mutuel program that begins at 7:25 p.m., with a pair of $7,846 Florida Breeders Stakes eliminations for juvenile trotting fillies that will be contested as non-wagering events that will commence at 6:50 p.m. (Pompano Park)
