The Flyin Doctor N moved up in class and won the featured Open Handicap pace at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Saturday afternoon. The race carried a purse of $22,000. Leaving from the #5 post in a field of nine, The Flyin Doctor N made the lead around the first turn, setting an opening fraction of 26:4. Driver Jim Morrill Jr. was able to ease up just a bit for the next half-mile and still keep the lead, despite pressure on the outside from Quality Western. The next two fractions were set in 55:2 and 1:23:2. In the stretch, The Flyin Doctor N was able to keep clear of any closer, prevailing by two lengths as the 2-1 betting favorite in a time of 1:51. Y Knot was able to parlay the pocket trip for 2nd, while Dave Panlone came on late for the show. An 8-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding sired by Sands A Flyin, The Flyin Doctor N is owned by Howard Taylor of Penn Valley, PA, Richard Lombardo of Solon, OH, and Abraham Basen of Las Vegas, NV.
