Ford sweep in Spring Series

March 26, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Whosurboy went from last to first down the long Woodbine stretch Saturday night to win the first of two first-round $55,000(C) Spring Pacing Championship divisions. In the second division, Street Sign sprung a 12-1 upset as 3-5 choice Quik Pulse Mindale tired after leading into the stretch, giving trainer Mark Ford a sweep of the opening leg of the series.

In the opening split, Mr. Domi and driver Jody Jamieson left from the outside post six and set a wicked opening quarter of :25.1. Mike Saftic moved 1-2 favorite Rair Earth from third to first, needing only a :29 flat second quarter to reach the half in :54.1. Meanwhile, Luc Ouellette bided his time in last, not making his move until after a 1:23.2 three-quarters.

With a tremendous rally, Whosurboy surged past the competition to win by slightly more than a length over Rair Earth. Tigerama was third for Phil Hudon.

In that second division, Street Sign and driver Rick Zeron closed with a rush to win in 1:51. Aahm Canadian Now (Saftic) and Admirals Express (Paul MacDonell) finished second and third, respectively. Quik Pulse Mindale tired to fourth for driver Tony Morgan.
