Victor DeBellis, who served as director of racing at Saratoga Harness in the mid-1980s, died Wednesday at age 55.
Born in Syosset, NY, DeBellis moved to Saratoga Springs in 1975 and later became director of racing at Saratoga Harness, a post he held until 1986. He then moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., near Jacksonville in 1997, where started his general contracting company, InCom Restorations Inc.
DeBellis is survived by his wife, Lona; his aunt, Sister Daria McGinn; his brother, John DeBellis Lorriane); nephews, Christopher Mahon (Nicole) and Ryan Mahon; niece, Katie Mahon; brother-in-law, Eric B. Morris (Lisa); nephew, Robert; niece, Abby; his sister-in-law, Laura J. Caponera (Victor); nephew, Ryan; niece, Kristen; his brother-in-law, William J. Morris (Judy); nephew, Greg; and his mother-in-law, Judy Ann Morris Binzen (Willard). A memorial service will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday, Feb. 21, at DeVine’s Funeral Home in Oyster Bay, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the causes that meant the most to DeBellis: JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund), 6 Greenwood Drive, East Greenbush, NY 12061; and Susan G.
