Four-bagger for Morand

Return Home
September 25, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

After being sidelined approximately six weeks, driver Jim Morand returned to his winning ways Sunday, winning four races on the Harrington Raceway program.

Morand resumed driving duties a week prior on Sept. 17. The winner of more than 7,100 races lifetime, started the win parade with a horse he was not originally programmed to drive, Irish Shade ($6) in the fourth race. He then won the seventh with Hot Lather ($6.80) and ninth with Robert Henry ($8.40). He ended the night with a bang with 15-1 shot Mitchell Paul ($35.60) whose late surge was enough to win the 15th and final race.

Tony Morgan still has a commanding lead in the driver standings with 105 wins. Brad Hanners is second with 56 victories, while Ross Wolfenden has 47.

The trainer standings are deadlocked at 22 wins with previous title winners Josh Green and Chuck Crissman. Les Givens, the 2005 spring meet leading trainer, is close behind with 21. (Harrington)
