After getting great live cover to the three-quarter mile pole, Battleshoe Victor ($6.80) and driver Anthony Napolitano then pulled the pocket and zoomed home as easy winners in the $16,000 Open Trot Monday at the Isle Pompano Park. It was a big night for Anthony Napolitano as he won four races on the program. The feature saw Battleshoe Victor leave from post four to take the early lead but they were challenged quickly by Oratorio and driver Andy Santaramo, who took over command at the opening quarter mile in a speedy :27.2. The field then raced Indian-style past the half-mile marker in :56.2 but by the three-quarters in 1:25.3, Napolitano left the garden seat with Battleshoe Victor and they pulled away from the field, winning by four open lengths in 1:55.2. Karpathos (Denis St Pierre) was second with Gale Warning (Wally Hennessey) third. Owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, N.Y. and trained by Tom Harmer, it was the sixth win this year for Battleshoe Victor, a 6-year-old gelded son of Valley Victor. (Pompano Park)
