Four Starz Sue breezed to a 1:50 victory in the $25,000 second leg of the Four Leaf Clover Series on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Four Starz Sue and driver Tim Tetrick seized control in a :54.4 half and sprinted to a 3 1/4-length tally over the pocketsitter Hard To Beat. Philos Hanover, who battled early for the lead, held on to finish third. Artist’s View, the 3-5 favorite, was hampered by post 10 and the lagging cover of his entrymate, Art At Heart. Four Starz Sue paid $13, $6.40 and $5.80.

Four Starz Sue was winless in eight starts this year prior to Saturday night’s victory. The 5-year-old gelding has shown significant improvement since being put on Lasix.

“Two weeks ago we put him on Lasix and he has responded well to it,” noted trainer Carmine Fusco. “All of last year, he raced great and won in 1:49. He showed no signs of problems and came back even stronger this year. Two weeks ago he raced on a very cold night. I thought he was just sick, but we scoped him and there was a little blood. So we put him on Lasix and the last two weeks, he was first and second. He was strong this week and came home in :27.”

The $94,000 Four Leaf Clover Final for conditioned older pacers shares the spotlight with the $84,000 Matt’s Scooter for 3-year-olds next Saturday at the Meadowlands. (Meadowlands)
