Four Starz Sue wins Open Handicap Pace at Pocono in 1:53.4

Four Starz Sue squeezed through a tiny opening to get up in time and win the featured Open Handicap pace on Saturday afternoon at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Four Starz Sue went off as the 4-5 favorite from post position six, and was forced to sit back in sixth early on as Broadway Jake set early fractions of :27.2 and :57. The favorite followed the cover of Slickest Havover, who took over the lead on the outside at the three-quarter mile mark, which was reached in 1:25.2.

Driver Tim Tetrick could have chosen to go three wide with Four Starz Sue in the stretch, but instead he swerved inside of Slickest Hanover and just outside of Allamerican Inca, who was driving up the passing lane. Four Starz Sue had all the momentum as he swept by Slickest Hanover in the final strides to get the win in 1:53.4. Slickest Hanover settled for second with Allamerican Inca getting third. Quality Western, the 2007 Pacer of the Year at Pocono, who was making his first start at the track this year, finished fourth.

Four Starz Sue, a 5-year-old gelding sired by The Panderosa, won for the second time in 11 races this year and for the 13 ^th time in his career, pushing his earnings over $175,000.  He is owned by Four Starzzzz Stable LLC of Hauppauge, NY, and trained by Carmine Fusco. (Pocono Downs)
