Carded as a Breeders Crown prep, the fillies and mares open at Mohawk Friday had a mild upset when Four Starzz Meliss took the lead at the half and cruised to a 1:50.3 win. Invitro (Paul MacDonnell) took the lead from the rail and posted a :26.1 first quarter. Driver Luc Ouellette took Four Starzz Meliss from post five to get away fourth but wasn’t set on staying there, shooting to the front at the half. On top for every race call thereafter, the six-year-old daughter of Cambest posted a :28.3 last quarter to win by a length. The Glenn Lalonde trainee, who is not eligible to the Breeders Crown, now has five wins in ’07 starts and over $106,000 in earnings this year; her lifetime earnings are now over $355,000. In order to supplement to the Breeders Crown, Four Starzz Meliss’ connections would need to put up a $37,500 by August 20.
