Jeff Fout scored his 4,500th driving victory at Dover Downs Sunday, while Bullion Bill A, Livestrong, Definitely Maybe and Perfect Swing also scored feature wins.
Winbak Farms' Celebrate America's second straight triumph was a celebration occasion for driver Jeff Fout. The 56-year-old Ohio native and leading driver for a number of season in the Buckeye state reached the 4,500 win plateau with the 1:57.2 victory in a 3,4&5-Year-Old Filly and Mare pace. For Fout, it marked a remarkable comeback after being involved in an accident in 2000. At the time, Fout was given no chance of ever driving a horse or even walking.
In the top pace, Bret Brittingham, driving Erika Paradee's Bullion Bill A, looped the field on the backstretch and sped away from his closest pursuer, Sage's Image (Ross Wolfenden), by four lengths turning for home on his way to a 1:51.4 victory in a $12,500 Male pace. The Albert Albert-Forest Glory gelding won for the third time this season, upping his seasonal earnings to $36,250. Jacks Laughter A (Ron Pierce) was third. Three Point Acres' Livestrong, driven by Pierce, turned it on for a 1:51.3 convincing victory in a $30,000 claiming allowance for the pacer's second win in a row and third in four starts. The 5-year-old Artiscape-Dreamlands Hardie horse, and former New Jersey Sire Stakes champion built up a big lead in the stretch and coasted home with his fifth win of 2008, extending his earnings this season to $44,900. I Believe Its True (Roberts) closed strongly to finish second. Truponder (Callahan) was the show horse. Tony Morgan made a big move at the three quarters, driving Russ Foster's Definitely Maybe past the leaders and then was all-alone on the way to a 1:51.4 score in a $25,000 claiming allowance. It was the eighth win this season for Definitely Maybe, a Cole Muffler gelding from Broadway Lead. Sign Of Class (Pierce) and Cathedral Grovel (Callahan) were second and third, respectively. Perfect Swing was on target in a $20,000 Delaware claiming allowance, picking up his second win in a row, notching a 1:52.3 win for owner-trainer Bobby Glassmeyer. An altered son of Jate Lobell-Greastestgiftofall, Perfect Swing was driven by Jonathan Roberts to his 12th success this year, giving the 5 year old earnings of $74,431 this year. Pure Class (Morgan) was second with Maheer Lord N (Wolfenden) third. (Dover Downs)
