A compact field of five freshman pacing colts will line up behind the gate Friday, August 20 in the 84th renewal of the Fox Stake. The event is part of a 12-race Grand Circuit program slated at the Indiana State Fair. The card will begin with a 10 a.m. first post.
Trainer Perry Smith has entered three colts in the $47,685 Fox Stake. Western Ideal freshman Best Man Hanover will start from the rail for Smith. Peter Wrenn is set to drive the pacer, yet to miss the board in four starts with a 1:53.3 victory to his credit. Smith will also send out Bursting Blaze (post three), a son of The Panderosa with two third-place finishes to his credit, and Con Game (post 5), a Cam’s Card Shark two year old with a win and two runner-up performances in three starts.
Joe Seekman, winner of the Fox Stake in 2009 with Morgan Shark, looks to repeat with Four Starzzz Z. The son of Western Hanover won his debut in 1:55, and will be driven by Seekman’s son, Travis. Four Starzzz Z has drawn post position four.
Allstar Shark rounds out the field for trainer Robert Reeser. The Four Starzzz Shark freshman won in 1:55.4, and will be driven by Mike Lachance. He starts from post two.
North America Cup consolation winner Allthatgltrsisgold headlines a field of six competing in The Horseman for colt pacers. Owned by Victory Hill Farm Inc., the son of Cam’s Card Shark enters the $34,919 contest off a 1:50 win at Indiana Downs. Dave Magee will guide the colt from post five for trainer Bobby Brower. He will be joined by a three-horse Seekman entry that includes Perrito Caliente (post three), Rocknroll Fever (post 4) and Morgan Shark (post 6).
Andovermetreasure, a 1:56.4 winner for trainer Rich Gillock, headlines a field of seven slated to compete in The Horseman for sophomore filly trotters. A group of 13 colt trotters dropped in the box for The Horseman, yielding two divisions. A pair of six-horse fields has been drawn for The Horseman for pacing fillies, with $19,508 up for grabs in each split.
Both the $23,237 Hoosier Stake for two-year-old colt trotters and $22,943 edition for freshman filly trotters attracted fields of seven. Groups of nine will contest the $24,667 Hoosier Stake for pacing colts and $24,263 event for fillies.
Cartier Field, by Yankee Glide out of Cartier Hall, leads a field of five in the $26,939 Horseman Stake for two-year-old trotters. Twice a winner in three starts with a mark of 1:57.4, Dan Shetler will pilot the Jan Johnson-trained freshman from post five. Ice Machine (Muscles Yankee-Icy Pleasure), once a winner in four starts, has drawn post three for Gillock.
