Foxy win at Maywood

December 15, 2006 | Print View

Fox Valley Rennard followed his opening round Incredible Finale Series victory with another resounding victory in the second leg for state-bred pacing freshman colts and geldings Thursday night at Maywood Park, winning in 1:56.3 in front-end fashion for driver Ryan Anderson.

The 8-5 public’s choice had to work much harder to get command this time from the six slot than he did on six nights ago at Balmoral Park when left from the rail but the end result was the same for Fox Valley Rennard, owned by Sawgrass Farms LLC of Locvport, Ill., and trained by Nelson Willis.

“This is a nice little horse who is coming into his own late in the year,” said winning driver Anderson. “Nelson Willis did a nice job of getting him ready for this series. This horse came up with that big 1:53.2 winning mile at Balmoral last week for Oosting (driver Mike) after five weeks off. And the horse was excellent on this track tonight.”

Fox Valley Rennard ($5.20) was hustled out from the six slot by Anderson and dropped into fourth when Incredibely Rich took the lead with driver Dale Hiteman. However, when the 5-2 second choice Grand Junction Co was taken out of sixth coming out of the first turn by driver Jason Dillander, Anderson had to get Fox Valley Rennard on the move early.

Incredibely Rich took the field to a :28.2 first quarter. Fox Valley Rennard came alongside the leader coming out of the second turn and cleared to the front soon after the :58 half-mile pole.

“The horse I was worried about the most in the race was Dillander’s (Grand Junction Co),” said Anderson. “Jason flushed us out of a hole early in the race and my horse had to work hard to get to the top but he did it nicely. He was perfect out there. I think he has a good shot to win this series final.”

Fox Valley Rennard put away Grand Junction Co after that youngster raced outside of the new leader through a :29 third quarter. Onthewingsofanangel (Josh Sutton) put on a late burst to get up for second, a nose haed of the third place finisher Incredibley Rich and three-quarters of a length behind the winner.

Fox Valley Rennard was third of four winning drives on the Thursday program for Anderson.

The $10,000 (est.) Incredible Finale Series for ICF 2-year-old males will be raced Wednesday night, Dec. 20 at Balmoral Park. (Maywood Park)
